Australian Republican Movement Candidates

Two delegates were elected from the Australian Capital Territory for the Constitutional Convention. The Australian Republican Movement candidates who stood for election are listed below. The number next to each person's name indicated their position on the ARM's ticket.

Anne Witheford

Formerly a TV researcher in the Parliamentary Press Gallery, Anne Witheford has been actively involved in the push for an Australian Head of State for the past five years. She was an ACT delegate to the Federation Centenary Convention Australia: The Next One Hundred Years held by the Constitutional Centenary Foundation. "Australia should go into the twenty-first century with its own Head of State. Each and every Australian should have the opportunity to serve in the highest office of the land."

Frank Cassidy

Frank Cassidy is the ACT Convener and foundation member of the Australian Republican Movement, and also editor of the national Public Service newspaper, Public Eye. Mr Cassidy was inaugural secretary of the National Australia Day Council and has been involved in promoting national pride and the celebration of Australia Day since 1979. Father of five and resident of Canberra for 26 years, Frank Cassidy is also prominent in ACT sporting circles.
