ARM Privacy Policy - July 2004

The Australian Republican Movement (ARM) is committed to safeguarding your privacy, both online and in our other dealings with you. We use the information we collect about you to send you communications about the ARM that may be of interest to you, either electronically or otherwise, and to help us understand more about how our website is used.

1. If you supply us with any personal information through any of our online forms, or by email, fax, telephone, post, or any other means, this information will be held in the strictest confidence and only used for the ARM purposes for which it was supplied.

2. The ARM believes you have a fundamental right to privacy on the web and we work to protect your security online as vigorously as possible. This policy governs all pages hosted at www.republic.org.au. It does not apply to pages hosted by other organisations to which we may link and whose privacy policies may differ.

3. We do not collect personally identifiable information on our website unless you voluntarily choose to give it to us via an electronic mail message, a phone call, by signing up as a supporter or a member, or by postal mail. Even when you choose to give us information, we keep it confidential, and we bind suppliers who work with us by these conditions as well.

4. We do not sell, rent or distribute mailing lists or other personally identifiable information to any third party outside the ARM. The ARM occasionally allows other organisations to insert materials with ARM communications. This is an economical means of enhancing the ARM's limited resources to communicate with its members. The ARM does not share or otherwise disclose its members or supporters lists to outside agencies.

5. We will never send you unsolicited materials as a result of participating in a petition, or supporters list unless you have explicitly agreed to it.

6. If you sign up as a member or sign a petition, you may be given the option to participate in future activities, to receive latest media releases, to receive a newsletter or further information, or to be invited to contribute to the ARM. You will always be given the option to decline any or all of those choices.

7. The ARM recognises the importance of ensuring that all membership and supporters details are accurate, complete and up-to-date. We are committed to providing our supporters and members ways of monitoring and amending the information you provide to us, and are currently developing more effective on-line tools to do so.

8. Our 'On-line membership' page uses Secure Server Software (SSL): the industry standard for secure commercial transactions. It encrypts all of your personal information, including credit card number, name, and address, so that it cannot be read as the information travels over the Internet.

9. Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100%. While the ARM makes every endeavour to protect your personal details from third party observation, it will not be liable in the event of a security breach resulting from a hacking violation. All financial transactions conducted through the ARM website are undertaken solely at the user's risk.

10. Only employees and volunteers who need to access personal information to perform a specific job (for example, our donation officers) are granted access to personally identifiable information. Furthermore, all ARM employees and volunteers who handle membership information are kept up-to-date on our security and privacy practices. Our employees and volunteers are notified and reminded about the importance we place on privacy, and what they can do to ensure our supporters' and members' information is protected.

Our security measures and this policy are reviewed on a regular basis. The ARM will take any complaint of a privacy violation extremely seriously and will promptly investigate it. If you have any privacy question, concern or complaint, please contact the ARM National Director Allison Henry.
