Today
the Australian Republican Movement presented
its submission to the parliamentary Joint Select
Committee examining the Constitution Alteration
(Establishment of Republic) Bill 1999.
The major points of the ARM's submission were
that the current Long Title of the Bill, which
forms the referendum question, does not mention
that the purpose of the Bill is to replace the
Queen with an Australian Head of State, and
that it does not mention the public nomination
process for Presidential candidates. Read our
