Terms and Conditions

How to Enter

  1. All entries must be received by 5pm, Friday 1 September, 2017
  2. One entry may be submitted per person
  3. Each entry must be submitted via email to essay@republic.org.au as a word or PDF document
  4. Submissions may be up to 1000 words in length
  5. All entries must be typed and double-spaced
  6. Submission emails must list the entrant’s contact details

Conditions of Entry

  1. Entries must be original works, written entirely by the entrant, and must not infringe upon anyone else’s copyright or intellectual property rights
  2. Entries must not, either wholly or partly, have previously been published in print or online (with the exception of an entrant’s personal blog or website)
  3. The name of the entrant should not be included anywhere on the submission; it should only be entered in the submission email
  4. Entrants under 16 years of age must have permission from a parent/guardian/teacher to enter the competition 
  5. All entrants retain the copyright rights that they have for the pieces they submit, but by entering The Republic Essay Competition each entrant consents to the use of his/her name and entry being used in promotional activities carried out by the ARM without further notice or compensation
  6. The ARM can publish or decline to publish any submitted entries at the ARM's sole discretion.
  7. The ARM retains the right to change the prize of the competition if circumstances make this necessary
  8. The ARM reserves the right not to consider a submission if any conditions of entry are not fulfilled

Consideration of Submissions

  1. The ARM Executive judging panel's decision is final; no correspondence will be entered into about the judgements or the judging process
  2. Only shortlisted entrants will receive feedback on entries
