The campaign for an Australian Republic is resurging. Boosted by the energy of its new Chairman, Peter FitzSimons and the bipartisan support of both the Prime Minister and the Federal Leader of the Opposition for the first time, the movement for an Australian Republic has gained significant momentum over the past year.
On Australia Day, all but one Premier and Chief Minister – both Labor and Liberal – signed a declaration supporting an Australian Head of State. Interest and membership is on the rise in South Australia too - with people signing up across all sides of politics. There is a refreshed new SA Council of the Australian Republican Movement that is growing membership and organising local events.
We are hosting a launch function for Parliamentary Friends for an Australian Republic that we would like to invite you to, with special guest Professor John Williams, Pro Vice-Chancellor - Research Operations and Dean of Graduate Studies at the University of Adelaide.
