An Australian Republic
With one of our own as head of state

Sashi Balaraman - Victorian Branch Convenor

Sashi Balaraman is the Victorian Convenor of the Australian Republican Movement and a member of the National Committee. Sashi has been a longstanding advocate of Australia becoming a Republic. Given his family's Indian background, being a Republican was never in doubt, and he believes it is anathema for our multicultural future to be tied to a foreign head of state.

Sashi is currently an Economic Adviser to the Victorian State Treasurer. He has previously worked as a Banking & Finance lawyer at one of Australia's leading commercial law firms. He is also a co-founder and director of African Voice, a not for profit that runs free public speaking and debating workshops for young people from across Africa.
