Republican beer
John Boston Premium Lager was launched on the Australian market in October 2009.
Named after the free settler and republican John Boston who brewed his first beer in Sydney in 1796 it makes an alternative to Crown Lager which became available to the Australian people in 1954 to celebrate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. Now republicans have a beer to which they can toast the coming republic, writes Glenn A. Davies.
