Australians Say Pledge To Queen Needs To Go

Polling released by Essential Media today shows Australians overwhelmingly believe members of parliament should swear allegiance to serve Australia and its people instead of pledging allegiance to the Queen.

75% of Australians said that members of the Australian Parliament should pledge allegiance to Australia and the Australian people. Only 15% said members of parliament should pledge allegiance to Queen Elizabeth II. 10% were unsure.

Australians Reject King Charles

The ABC’s VoteCompass Survey has found that a majority of Australians (53%) disapprove of Prince Charles becoming King of Australia at the end of the Queen’s reign, with only a third saying they’ll support Charles as King.

The results show a monarchy in crisis, with support for Charles falling to just 35% of the nation. It’s simply untenable to retain a Head of State who lacks popular legitimacy and will assume the position without even facing a ballot.

More than 10,000 Australians took part in the ARM’s public consultation, which informed the ARM National Committee’s policy deliberations and the constitutional amendments.
